Our societies need to be prepared for synthesized images becoming ever more difficult to distinguish from real ones.

Björn Ommer is an ELLIS Fellow, a Unit Faculty at the ELLIS Unit in Munich, and a Full Professor at the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) of Munich where he heads the ‘Computer Vision & Learning’ research group. We are thrilled to share that he has been interviewed and where explains why he released the open-source text-to-image generator ' Stable Diffusion.'  The interview touches on the implications of realistic AI-generated images and the need for computational resources in Europe. Ommer shares his views on the benefits and risks of AI and his current research projects. The article concludes with Ommer’s background and links for further information.
