New ELLIS Fellows and Scholars at the Munich Unit

With new Fellows and Scholars recognised this year, the ELLIS Munich Unit further strengthens its contribution to Europe’s AI research landscape.

 

The ELLIS Munich Unit is pleased to announce the recognition of eight researchers as ELLIS Fellows and Scholars in 2024. These appointments reflect scientific excellence across foundational, methodological, and applied areas of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

ELLIS Fellows and Scholars are selected based on outstanding research contributions and their commitment to advancing Europe’s AI research landscape. The 2024 cohort at the Munich Unit represents a broad spectrum of expertise, ranging from mathematical foundations to AI-driven applications in science and society.

Recognised ELLIS Fellows

  • Holger Rauhut – Mathematical Foundations of Data Science

  • Matthias Nießner – Computer Vision & 3D Machine Learning

  • Nassir Navab – AI in Medical Imaging & Computer-Aided Procedures

Recognised ELLIS Scholars 

  • Vincent Fortuin – Probabilistic Machine Learning

  • Stefan Bauer – Algorithmic Machine Learning & Explainable AI

  • Stefan Feuerriegel – Data-Driven Decision Making & Responsible AI

  • Bastian Rieck – Topological Data Analysis & Machine Learning
