The ELLIS Summer School on Machine Learning & Computer Vision

 

The ELLIS Summer School on Machine Learning & Computer Vision is a four-day scientific continuing education event for early-career researchers at postgraduate level.

The programme covers current research in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing. It combines keynote lectures, invited scientific talks, a closing panel discussion, and two poster sessions in which participants present their ongoing research to an international academic audience. The program is further complemented by a masterclass on science communication and a Tech Transfer (Startup) Panel exploring the transition from academic research to real-world application.

Participants gain access to current research knowledge, direct interaction with leading scientists in their field, and international networking with peers from around the world , skills and connections that are invaluable for an academic career.

Applications for the ELLIS Summer School 2026 are now being accepted

Places are limited to 100 participants. To apply, please complete the Application Form

 

Deadline for applications: June 30, 2026 23:59 CET

 

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by mid-July.

 

Note that priority will be given to applicants whose research closely matches the school’s focus, as well as to ELLIS-affiliated students and researchers where appropriate, while also aiming for diversity in academic discipline, career stage, institution, geography, and gender.

Registration fee

The registration fee will be announced shortly. Lunch and coffee breaks are included throughout the week.

Participants are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel and accommodation. Information on available accommodations near the venue can be found in the location section below.

How to get there?

 

The high-tech Garching Campus north of Munich is TUM's largest location and one of the most modern research and training facilities in Europe.

  • Metro: Underground Line U6 takes you directly from the city to the center of the Garching Campus. (Station: Garching Forschungszentrum; ~ 30 minutes from Sendlinger Tor) Munich

  • Airport: You can reach the campus directly from Munich International Airport by taking bus line 635 and transferring to X660, or by taking the S1 train and transferring to bus line 690. (~ both routes take around 35 minutes)

  • Taxi: Applications like Uber, FreeNow, and taxi.eu are widely used throughout the city. (~ 16 mins from Airport and ~ 30 mins from Central Station

  • Accommodation

    • There are two hotels on the Garching Campus

      • Stellaris Apartment Hotel and Courtyard by Marriott, as well as a few hotels in the town of Garching.

      • More affordable options in Munich include The Tent Munich, a&o hostels, and DJH Youth Hostel Munich Park, all easily accessible by public transport
